What Is Descript?
Descript is a transcript-first audio and video editor. It transcribes a recording and lets you cut audio or video by editing the transcript text. It also offers multitrack editing, screen recording, captions, filler-word removal, Studio Sound, clips, stock media, AI speech, voice cloning, and selected generative video tools.
It works well when the spoken words are the edit decision. It does not remove the need to check cuts, timing, room tone, visual continuity, or captions.

Limitations and Trade-offs
Media hours and AI credits are hard limits, and advanced tools consume them at different rates. Transcript-based editing does not remove the need to check cuts, timing, room tone, visual continuity, or captions. Automatic speaker recognition and cleanup make mistakes with overlapping voices, names, technical terms, and noisy audio.
Who Should Use Descript?
It fits podcasters, video editors, course creators, and teams producing talking-head or screen-based content fast. Complex multi-camera productions may still need a dedicated nonlinear editor.
